“Can-Paign 2012″ – International Food Drive Updates

Last Fall, American Muslim students launched the first every national food drive that raised over ten tons of food for East Africa. This year, our efforts launched internationally as students in the United States as well as other countries started their own local food drives to benefit banks in their neighborhood communities. The year’s theme is “live healthy, give healthy.”
Ahmadulillah, the Can-Paign has so far stayed true to its healthier intentions and has strived in facilitating the collection of wholesome food. So far, MWB has a total of 21 universities participating! Alhamdulillah, we also have our very first application internationally from Cairo University, where a group of young medical students are cooperating with us to deliver healthy food to their local shelter. We have collected a spanning range from $100 worth of food to a whopping $4,000 and counting.
As the Can-Paign is coming to a close, there are many memorable lessons we can take from observing students hard at work. Whether it’s organizing an epic food pyramid (NY Institute of Technology) or dressing up as a can to attract donors (University of Maryland), the message rings clear. Creativity, and sincerity, go far. MWB values it’s young workers, because to them, starting locally is the gateway to influencing the larger world.
